Wheat Beers Explained

Wheat Beers Explained

Wheat Beers Explained

22 February 2022 /Posted bytyler.smith / 147 / 0

Here’s a question many of us never take the time to consider: what is beer? Beer is made from a combination of grains, hops, yeast and water. Anyone with knowledge of the craft beer world likely knows that different hops can fundamentally change the taste of a beer. Still, fewer know that the grain can also have a massive impact on the beer. Wheat Beers offer some exciting flavours thanks to their unique brewing process. Learn more about what makes the wheat beer special with Backyard Beers.

What is a Wheat Beer?

Most beers are brewed predominantly with malted barley. However, the wheat beer is a little different. Wheat beers are typically top-fermented and always feature a much more significant proportion of wheat in comparison to the barley used. This unique ratio results in a noticeably lighter taste and colour.

Backyard Beers Wheat Beer Collection

You’ll find a few selections of truly unique wheat beers in our European category. Wheat beers are a popular traditional drink in Europe, from the Bavarian Weizenbier to the wild yeast Belgian Lambic. Here are just a few of our favourite wheat beers for sale in our European category!

Watermelon Wheat Beer by Seven Bro7hers

Seven Bro7hers are never afraid to play with unique types of beers, and their wheat beer is one of the best on the market today. This wheat beer features a subtle infusion of delicious watermelon, bolstered by the late addition of hops that add a mellow strawberry and pineapple aroma. This beer is designed to leave you feeling refreshed and your tastebuds revitalised. Check it out!

Took The Midnight Grain Stout by Brew York

The outside world blurs into twilight on the midnight train. This Brew York stout hangs on the rails between a stout and wheat beer, making for an exciting twist to fans of both types of beer. Took The Midnight Grain is a dark, highly roasted stout brewed with copious amounts of midnight wheat. Midnight wheat is a unique choice for a stout that can be roasted quite darkly without creating that acidic taste craft beer nerds know as “astringency”. So for an unforgettable ride, take the Midnight Grain today.

Humble Pie Wheat Beer by Seven Bro7hers

Anyone who sneers at a wheat beer will have to eat some humble pie after trying this delicious seven Bro7hers twist on the recipe. Brewed with pear, blackberry and nettle aromas, this is a delightfully tart and rich beer with a gorgeous colour outside the can. We recommend Humble Pie to those looking to see the best of the wheat beer world.
